Why is Catherine Newman not coming to Powell's? 😭 I can't wait to read Sandwich. And John Green's latest. His YA books were huge when my daughter was just the right age for them, and then he began making videos. He is so great. I'm such a fan.

Loved seeing your roses (fun/weird fact--my daughter was a Rose Festival queen and I have *feelings* about roses and Portland), and I endorse all your mind/body thoughts. Nothing like aging to get me into my body and seeing it as actually me. About time, I'd say. So glad you are taking a break to care for your whole self. I'll miss your writing, but look forward to your return. And happy milestone birthday!

Rita, it’s UNCANNY how much you and I seem to share thought space and heart space. I loved your most recent post — it really spoke to me.

I would love this post even if you didn't include me (thanks so much for including me!). "Sandwich" is next to my bed - I don't buy too many new releases, but this one was yelling at me. I will definitely be listening to that pod (a little obsessed with pandemic fallout and desperate for solutions). Roses are aspirational for me, forever (we'll see if I do anything about it). And my baby is 26 - how did this happen?! I still can't get my head around it. Happy birthday to the 21-year-old! Thanks again, so so much, for including me in your lovely Substack experience. 💕

This is so beautiful Asha. I was touched especially by you tending to your father's roses my father taught me to garden and we lived in Southern California but he tried to make it Portland by planning roses and one giant Douglas fir in the front yard lol here I am back in Oregon tending to roses and my gardens and my growing older. I just went to San Francisco for my granddaughter's high School graduation.

That was something my mother did not get to do with my daughter she had died by the time my daughter graduated from high school. It was such a joy to be there with my daughter and granddaughter and to be witness to one more life transition. Life is good when we take time to notice how lucky we are no matter where we are in our growing up and older. Thank you again
